Profiles logo 250Report: Profiles Theatre, the object of a far-reaching investigative report in the Chicago Reader alleging a culture of physical and psychological abuse by co-artistic director Darrell W. Cox, has ceased operations, according to a message posted on the company’s website.

“We are sad to announce that Profiles Theatre is closing its doors after 28 years and 81 productions. The closure is effective immediately,” the Profiles website statement read in part.

Without acknowledging the many complaints lodged against Cox in the Reader’s report, the Profiles statement concluded: “We hope this decision will further the healing process within our community. May Chicago theatre thrive and its future be bright.”

In response to the Reader’s story, Penelope Skinner, author of Profiles’ next scheduled production, “The Village Bike,” withdrew the rights to her play.

Except for the brief termination statement, all other elements of the Profiles website, including  its logo, have been taken down.
